The State Highways Department will soon initiate works to extend the Avinashi Road flyover in Coimbatore city.

The State Highways Department will soon commission a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to construct a flyover on Avinashi Road from Chinniyampalayam to Neelambur.Official sources in the Department said the DPR will be prepared at about ₹80 lakh. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited and the Airport Authority of India recently gave no objection certificates for construction of the flyover from Chinniyampalayam to Neelambur.Details such as cost of the flyover project, ramps, and land acquisition that may be required will be decided when the DPR is prepared. The soil should be tested for every pillar that will have to be raised for the flyover, which will be almost an extension of the GD Naidu flyover on Avinashi Road, the sources added.There is a demand from the commuters to extend the flyover till Neelambur as traffic snarls are high at Chinniyampalayam, especially during peak hours. Further, vehicles that are coming to Coimbatore city from places such as Salem, Erode and Tiruppur will be able to travel quickly if the flyover is connected till Neelambur.The 10-km GD Naidu flyover construction work commenced in 2021.
