Omnicom displaced WPP in the June North American media holding company rankings, after nearly doubling its net new-business billings month-over-month. According to Campaign Red’s analysis of preliminary data from COMvergence as of June 2, Omnicom posted $889.9 million — up from $453.9 million in May — driven by major wins including Subway, On and IBM in the U.S. The group also reported $379.7 million in retentions led by Cox Automotive, Delta Air Lines and Dyson, broadly consistent with its May retention total.WPP rose to $591.7 million in net new business from $495.7 million in May, with top wins including Wendy’s Restaurants, SC Johnson and Jaguar & Land Rover, plus $15 million in retentions from SC Johnson Lifestyle in the U.S. Despite the increase, Omnicom’s surge was enough to push WPP to second.Publicis Groupe retained third place with $379.9 million in net new-business billings — up roughly $138 million from May — from wins including Microsoft, Combe and ARS Pharmaceuticals in the U.S.The June rankings also mark a notable departure from a year ago, when Publicis Groupe dominated the U.S. holding company table with $1.4 billion in net new-business billings, buoyed largely by its landmark Coca-Cola account win.Plus Company rounded out the rankings with $4 million in net new business from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario.Agency performanceHorizon Media retained the top spot in the agency rankings, generating $475.3 million in net new-business billings across the U.S. and Canada — a gain of roughly $24 million over its May total and more than double the billings of the next-ranked agency.The New York-based independent continued to extend its commanding lead, with top wins including Discover Card, E&J Gallo Winery and Bel, the global food company behind brands such as Babybel, The Laughing Cow and Boursin.The month’s most striking development was the emergence of Initiative in second place. The former IPG-owned (now Omnicom) agency posted $198.2 million in net new-business billings — driven by a confidential U.S. account — along with $25 million in retentions led by Travel Alberta in Canada. It is the highest billings recorded by any agency other than Horizon in the North American rankings so far this year.Cramer-Krasselt, an independent Chicago-based agency, slipped one place to third with $80.6 million in net new-business billings from WeatherTech Direct. Publicis Groupe agency Infinite Roar climbed three places to fourth with $66.5 million from personal care brand Combe and internet infrastructure company Uniti Group. Meanwhile, Omnicom’s Mediahub remained in the top five with $61.8 million following wins from Bloomberg and Major League Soccer.Independent agencies Tinuiti, Croud and Brainlabs retained their positions in the top eight, while independent, Dallas-based PMG held ninth place. Omnicom shop UM entered the rankings in 10th with $24.8 million in net new business from a confidential U.S. account, supplemented by $6.8 million in retentions including Dyson in Canada.Hearts & Science ranked 18th with $7.2 million in wins from dietary supplement brand Qunol, but once again stood out for its retentions — $134 million led by Cox Automotive in the U.S.Two other agencies made their first appearance in the June rankings: GSD&M, the Omnicom shop based in Austin, Texas, posted $9.2 million from AB InBev’s Grupo Modelo, Victoria (Mexico’s oldest beer brand) and sunglasses brand Goodr; Omnicom’s Media Experts generated $8.3 million from Canadian accounts including Sunwing Airlines, car rental marketplace Turo and Bloomberg.From July 2026, Campaign will no longer be reporting rankings on a monthly basis.According to COMvergence, any agency moves are considered as new-business whether there was a competitive or closed review. Even agency shifts without a pitch are considered, as long as they are not related to an acquisition from one advertiser to another.Campaign Red has produced the North American media rankings, using direct findings from COMvergence, to calculate the overall media billings sum of each agency, taking into account both wins and losses for the period. The formula is new wins-minus-losses.
