With the southwest monsoon further advancing in the State, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall till June 11 and declared yellow alert in many districts in coastal, north and south interior Karnataka.IMD Scientist C.S. Patil on Monday said that heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts for which a yellow alert has been declared till June 11.Likewise, heavy rain has been forecast in Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Shivamogga, Davangere, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu districts, and in some places very heavy rainfall till June 11 and an yellow alert has been issued.Bengaluru and its neighbourhood would receive light to moderate rainfall till June 11.For Bengaluru, the forecast stated that there would be generally cloudy sky, light to moderate rain with sustained wind. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29°C and 21°C respectively.The IMD said that the southwest monsoon was normal over coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka.“Rainfall occurred at most places over coastal Karnataka, at many places over north interior Karnataka and at a few places over south interior Karnataka,” the IMD said.The IMD added that the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of west-central and east-central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and some parts of Telangana on Monday.“Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and southwest Bay of Bengal,” the IMD added.
