A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the sea area north of Evia island near Athens early Monday, authorities said. No injuries or damage were immediately reported.
According to the Institute of Geodynamics at the National Observatory of Athens, the quake occurred at 5.13 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located 9 kilometers southwest of Prokopi at a depth of 16.4 kilometers.
Seismologists said the tremor was an aftershock of Sunday’s 5.2-magnitude earthquake, which was widely felt in Athens and other parts of central Greece.
Efthymios Lekkas, president of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP), told state broadcaster ERT that the aftershock sequence was progressing normally and that there was no cause for concern. More than 110 aftershocks have been recorded in the area since Sunday’s quake.
