A series of earthquakes struck around noon on Sunday, with epicentres in Evia, northeast of Athens.

The tremors were strongly felt in Athens and surrounding areas, though no injuries or damage have been reported.

The first, recorded at 12:58 p.m., had a magnitude of 4.8, according to the Geodynamic Institute. It was shallow, at an estimated depth of about 5 kilometres.

Minutes later, a second and stronger quake of magnitude 5.2 was recorded, with its epicenter located around 2 km east-southeast of Prokopi in northern Evia, also at a depth of approximately 5 kilometres.

Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the area.
