LUCENA CITY — Despite the onset of the rainy season, authorities in Atimonan, Quezon, on Sunday urged residents to take precautions after the town’s heat index climbed to a dangerous 44 degrees Celsius.

In a public advisory posted on its Facebook page at 2:20 p.m., the Atimonan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said the 44°C heat index was recorded at 2:12 p.m. via the local government’s Automated Weather Station (AWS).

“Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., as it may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion. This could lead to heat stroke if physical activity continues without interruption,” according to the advisory, written in Filipino.
