A 24-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death by a gang near Tiruverumbur on Saturday night.The victim was identified as Padhusha of Bharathiyar Street in Ariyamangalam. According to the police, he was riding a two-wheeler near the police check-post at Kattur Oil Mill in Kamaraj Nagar around 11.30 p.m. when he fell from the vehicle. A three-member gang, which had allegedly been following him on another two-wheeler, attacked him with sharp weapons. Padhusha died on the spot.On receiving information, a police team, led by Tiruverumbur Inspector Venkateswaran, rushed to the scene and conducted an inquiry. Superintendent of Police Praveen Umesh Dongre inspected the spot. The body was sent to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.A case has been registered and investigations are under way. Police said they were questioning the brother of one of the suspected assailants as part of the probe.CCTV footage showing Padhusha falling from his motorcycle and being chased and attacked by three persons was being examined by investigators. Preliminary inquiries suggested that the victim had been involved in a dispute linked to a woman from Ariyamangalam. Police sources said he had suffered serious injuries, including the loss of two fingers on his right hand, in a clash in September last year.
