The Tiruvallur District police on Wednesday arrested four men in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old history sheeter near Periyapalayam.

Police sources said a 26 year old history sheeter, identified as Gokul of Ariyapakkam, was hacked to death by an unidentified gang on Tuesday night. His body was found lying in a vacant land in Thanduma Nagar near Periyapalayam on Wednesday. Police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

On receiving information, Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police Vivekanandha Shukla and Uthukottai DSP Raja inspected the spot along with local police personnel. Police initially suspected that Gokul was abducted before being killed. However, inquiries later indicated that the murder stemmed from a drunken quarrel. His call records were being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation. Within two hours of the incident, police secured the four accused and registered an FIR. Further investigation is under way.
