Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has fired an early warning to his players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting he was left disappointed by their performance in a 1-1 draw against Jamaica in Mexico on Saturday.

South Africa are currently putting the finishing touches on their preparations for the global showpiece after arriving in Mexico earlier this week, where they have established a base camp in Pachuca ahead of their opening Group A clash against tournament co-hosts Mexico at the iconic Estadio Azteca on Thursday (kick-off 9pm).

The friendly against Jamaica at Estadio Hidalgo represented one of the final opportunities for Broos to assess his squad in a competitive environment before the World Cup begins.

While Bafana managed to avoid defeat courtesy of a second-half strike from Lyle Foster, which cancelled out Dwayne Atkinson’s goal for the Caribbean nation, the Belgian mentor was far from satisfied with what he witnessed.
