A court in Erode on Saturday (June 6, 2026) sentenced a man to life imprisonment in connection with a murder that took place in 2019 within the limits of the Erode North Police Station.According to the police, Raju, a powerloom worker from S.G. Valasu in Veerappanchatram, was found dead with multiple injuries in a vacant site behind Chikka Naicker College at Solakkattuthottam on May 27, 2019. Based on a complaint lodged by his wife, Shanthi, the Erode North Police initially registered a case of suspicious death and commenced an investigation.During the inquiry, police found that Prabhakaran alias "Pencil" Prabhakaran, a resident of Veerappanchatram, had allegedly developed animosity towards Raju. Investigators said Raju had repeatedly abused and humiliated the accused whenever they met, leading to a longstanding enmity between the two.The investigation revealed that Prabhakaran had allegedly assaulted and murdered Raju. Following the findings, the case was altered to one of murder, and the accused was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.After completion of the investigation, the police filed a chargesheet before the Second Additional District Court, Erode. Upon completion of the trial, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict. Published - June 06, 2026 08:44 pm IST
