A district court in Udupi on Wednesday sentenced another man to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of murder committed in Udupi district on May 14, 2023.According to the chargesheet, the accused, Raju, a construction worker, bludgeoned his supervisor, ‘Mestri’ Sangodappa, alias Sangamesh, to death with a laterite stone at a construction site in Harkur village of Kundapura taluk following a heated exchange over payment of wages.First Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Rahim Hussain Sheikh on Wednesday sentenced Raju to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 for the offence under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was also sentenced to one year’s imprisonment and fined ₹5,000 each for the offences under Sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC. All the sentences will run concurrently, the judge said.Indira Nayak represented the prosecution before the court.Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar lauded the work of Circle Inspectors Savitrutej and Shivakumar B., Police Sub-Inspector Pavan Nayak and Police Constable Rekha for monitoring the trial and bringing witnesses before the court.
