Premier Doug Ford’s five-month legislative break means his nominees for influential roles on agencies, boards and commissions could get appointments automatically — without opposition grilling.

In a meeting described as “spicy” by political staff, Progressive Conservatives pushed back on a Liberal manoeuvre, supported by the New Democrats, that demanded the standing committee on government agencies work throughout the summer to vet the premier’s candidates, asking about qualifications or party affiliation.
