Following construction of a drainage channel, traffic between Cumbum and Cumbum Mettu would be diverted from June 8 to July 7, said Theni District Collector R. Vaithinathan here on Friday.A press release stated that as the officials have planned to construct a drainage channel (vadikaal) on the SH 283 from 9/0 to 12/8, the traffic shall be diverted in the following pattern.Vehicles from Cumbum proceeding to Cumbum Mettu shall take Gudalur, Kumuly, Sakkupallam, Anakara, Puratti, Rajakandam and reach the destination. In the return direction, the vehicles shall come through the same route to reach Cumbum.The WRD and highways officials said that the channel construction and among others for about 65 metres were under way and since the works need to be completed before monsoon, they had proposed to suspend vehicle movement on the stretch.
