Cumbum TVK MLA Jaganath Misra flagging off a bus on the Cumbum Mettu ghat section on Saturday.
The Cumbum Mettu ghat section, which was closed for vehicular traffic since June 8, was reopened on Saturday after the renovation works were completed.Highways department officials said that the ghat section, which has 18 hairpin bends, was under the State highways (283) measuring six km. At a particular point identified as Kinathu Valaivu, it was found that the road had worn out and required repairs.Thus, the officials closed the vehicular movement and began laying cement road and also constructed channel for storm water drain along 65 metres and completed the work.The Cumbum TVK MLA Jaganath Misra was the chief guest, who flagged off the commencement of the vehicular traffic on the stretch.The officials said that from now onwards, except heavy trucks and dipper lorries, all other vehicles including buses and private cars/vans would be permitted.
