Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has vowed to vigorously challenge the criminal charges filed against him over their participation in a protest in 2025 to demand the release of Kanu.
Ejimakor, who is facing prosecution alongside activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and others, made the remarks in a video recorded on his way to court on Friday.
Giving an update ahead of the proceedings at the Kuje Magistrate Court, Ejimakor described the case as an attempt to criminalise constitutionally protected rights to protest and free expression.
“I am facing criminal prosecution that could send me to jail for I don't know how many years for daring to protest for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or for the halting of his prosecution on October 20th last year,” Ejimakor said.
