Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Warns Tinubu Govt: ‘Stop Prosecuting Sowore To Avoid National Crisis Like Awolowo’s Trial’

Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has warned President Bola Tinubu to immediately discontinue the criminal prosecution of human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

Ejimakor warned that pursuing the case over a social media post could trigger dangerous political consequences similar to those that followed the trial and conviction of Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the 1960s, which he said contributed to the national crisis that culminated in a military coup and Nigeria's civil war.

In a statement shared on X on Thursday, Ejimakor cautioned that prosecuting Sowore over a social media post describing President Tinubu as a "criminal" was unnecessary and politically risky.

President Tinubu must urgently rethink the wisdom of prosecuting Omoyele Sowore over something as trivial as a social media post calling him a "criminal".
