The National Consumer Tribunal has fined Fugui Trading R100,000 after finding that the company contravened the Consumer Protection Act.

This comes after the National Consumer Commission (NCC) conducted inspections at the supplier's premises in Ottery, Cape Town, in November 2025 and launched an investigation.

The probe found that the company was selling blankets without the required trade descriptions, including information on the country of origin, composition and care instructions. It also displayed "no refunds", "no returns" and "no warranty" notices, which the Tribunal found were unfair and unlawfully limited consumers' rights under the Act.

"The Tribunal found that Fugui Trading contravened section 24(1) read with regulation 6(1)(a) of the CPA by supplying goods without the prescribed trade descriptions," the consumer watchdog said.

"The Tribunal further found that the supplier contravened section 48(1) of the CPA by supplying goods on terms that were unfair, unreasonable, and unjust. The Tribunal declared the respondent’s conduct to be prohibited in terms of the CPA,".
