The Blitzboks will be chasing sevens history this weekend in Bordeaux, France, where they could clinch the HSBC SVNS World Championship, to go with the regular season title.
The Springbok Sevens teams head into this weekend’s HSBC SVNS World Championship finale in Bordeaux with very different narratives, but a shared sense of urgency: the Blitzboks chasing history and silverware, and the Springbok Women fighting to secure their place on the global circuit for next season.
For the men’s side, captain Impi Visser has framed the campaign around a simple principle: collective effort over individual brilliance.
That mindset, he believes, will determine whether South Africa can convert a strong season into something historic in France, where they have the chance to win both the SVNS Series and the World Championship in the same year.
“It is a mindset of ‘team first’ that will carry us through,” Visser said on the eve of the tournament. “It was not the greatest team effort last weekend. Individually we fought hard, but as a collective we did not punch hard enough.”
