THE North-West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) says a vehicle being wrecked in a social media video had been parked in a restricted area.In a video posted to social media, the voice of a woman is heard claiming members of staff were having problems to park and a wrecker was brought in to wreck them.“This is what they doing to staff at Port of Spain General. Nowhere for the staff to park and they calling in the wreckers. This is what the RHA is doing,” she said.In a release yesterday, the NWRHA stated it was “aware of concerns raised regarding a video circulating on social media showing the removal of a vehicle from the compound of the Port of Spain General Hospital.“The Authority wishes to clarify that the vehicle was parked in a restricted area on the northern side of the facility adjacent to the Maternity Staff Car Park and was removed in accordance with the NWRHA’s Parking Policy, which has been in effect since May 2022. At the time of its removal, the vehicle was obstructing several vehicles from exiting the parking area,” the release stated.The authority reported the vehicle was one of two removed from the compound yesterday with the assistance of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), following the identification of multiple parking violations. The release did not state whether either of the vehicles was owned by staff members.“The removals formed part of the ongoing enforcement of the authority’s exis­ting Parking Policy. The second vehicle was parked within the Ambulance Bay at the front of the hospital, a critical emergency access area that must remain clear at all times to facilitate patient care and emergency response,” the release stressed.The NWRHA stated that effective traffic and parking management are essential to maintaining uninterrupted hospital operations and ensuring access for emergency and essential services.“Unauthorised parking in restricted areas can impede patient access, delay emergency response and disrupt the delivery of healthcare services,” the release added.The NWRHA stated it has consistently advised staff and members of the public that vehicles parked in restricted areas or causing obstructions are subject to removal under the Parking Policy.“To support compliance, the Security Department has installed signage throughout the compound identifying restricted parking areas and ‘No Parking’ zones. The TTPS has also been supportive in facilitating the placement of additional signage where required,” the release added.“While the authority acknowledges the ongoing demand for parking at the Port of Spain General Hospital, compliance with established parking regulations remains essential to ensuring the safety, accessibility and efficient functioning of the facility.“The Authority advises that enforcement of its Parking Policy will continue and urges all staff, patients and visitors to use designated parking areas to ensure safe and uninterrupted healthcare delivery.”
