The aggrieved youths said the abandoned projects have left behind deep excavations, failed drainage systems and erosion channels that now pose significant dangers to residents, particularly as the rainy season intensifies.
Residents of Kafanchan in Southern Kaduna on Thursday staged a peaceful protest over the alleged abandonment of major road projects in Kafanchan Wards A and B, accusing the administration of Governor Uba Sani of neglecting campaign promises made to the community ahead of the 2023 governorship election.
The protesters, operating under the banner of the Kafanchan Youth Forum, marched through major streets of the town and to the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, demanding the immediate resumption and completion of road construction projects initiated during the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Carrying placards with inscriptions such as "Our Future Is Under Construction, Don't Abandon Kafanchan Emirate," "From Blueprint To Reality: A Plea For Kafanchan," "Kafanchan's Promise, Governor's Legacy — Finish The Project Sir," and "Kafanchan's Development Is Kaduna's Progress, Complete The Project Sir," the demonstrators lamented what they described as years of government neglect.
