Tension erupted in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday after residents reportedly burned campaign posters of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Videos circulating on social media showed groups of youths destroying and setting campaign materials ablaze amid heightened political activity in the state.
According to reports, the NDC chairman in the local government area, Bilyaminu Bachirawa, was allegedly pulled from a moving motorcycle during the disturbance.
Witness accounts indicate that the party official narrowly escaped serious harm as angry youths pursued the motorcycle while shouting slogans and expressing opposition to the party’s campaign activities.
The incident comes barely days after the NDC formally announced Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election and unveiled former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.
