The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved the State Aviation Policy 2026-31, setting an ambitious roadmap to transform the State into a major aviation and aerospace hub over the next decade.Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, at the Secretariat on Thursday, said the policy aims to increase passenger handling capacity from 6.2 million to 30.38 million by 2035 and boost air cargo volumes from 6,240 metric tonnes to 4.27 lakh metric tonnes. The policy envisages development of nine new airports and 10 waterdromes, ensuring airport access within a 150-km radius across the State.The Cabinet also approved an allocation of ₹10 crore for large-scale celebration of International Yoga Day 2026 from June 7 to 21. The State plans to involve one crore citizens in yoga activities, with Amaravati hosting the flagship event. It also approved the establishment of the AP Yoga and Naturopathy Prachara Parishad to promote preventive healthcare through yoga and naturopathy.Private universityIn the higher education sector, the Cabinet cleared an ordinance to facilitate establishment of Sri City International University in Tirupati district under the Greenfield category. The proposed private university, backed by an investment of about ₹250 crore, will focus on research, innovation, entrepreneurship and industry-linked skill development.Beach shacksAmong other decisions, the Cabinet approved draft excise policy guidelines for beach shacks, with pilot projects proposed at Chirala and Visakhapatnam. The government will allow two beach shacks each at Chirala and Visakhapatnam. It also approved implementation of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 2011, through an ordinance to regulate organ donation and transplantation and curb illegal organ trade.Further approvals included establishment of a special court support structure with 21 posts for speedy disposal of AgriGold and depositor protection cases, transfer of land at Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam for tourism projects, and implementation of the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) from July 1, 2026.
