As mango season reaches its peak across India, a food safety raid in Gujarat has raised serious concerns about the quality of mango-based products reaching consumers. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has shared footage from an inspection in Mehsana where officials allegedly uncovered a large stock of rotten mangoes that were being kept for juice production. During the inspection, enforcement teams discovered and seized a massive stock of mangoes intended for juice extraction. Mangoes used for juice extraction were found heavily rotten, worm-eaten, and visibly infested with fungus and insects. Strict enforcement action has been taken against the violators."Mangoes Seized Before ProcessingThe stock was reportedly confiscated during the inspection. According to the authorities, the mangoes were prevented from entering the production process, and enforcement measures were taken against those responsible for the alleged violations.The incident has attracted attention because mango-based products witness huge demand during the summer months. From packaged drinks and fresh juices to ice creams, desserts and traditional beverages, mango pulp is widely used across the food industry.Why Spoiled Fruits Can Be DangerousThe discovery has also highlighted the risks associated with using rotten fruits in food production. Spoiled fruits may develop harmful bacteria, fungal contamination and other impurities that can affect food safety.Health experts warn that consuming products prepared from decayed fruits could potentially trigger food poisoning and stomach-related illnesses. Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhoea, digestive discomfort and other health complications.
