The Ministry stated that through its diplomatic missions in South Africa, it has been engaging Malawian communities to assess the situation and provide assistance.
The Government of Malawi says it is closely monitoring reports of vigilante violence and attacks targeting African migrants in parts of South Africa and has begun diplomatic and consular steps to support affected nationals.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the government said it is “aware of and has been following with keen interest reports of vigilante demonstrations and attacks on African Migrants in some parts of the Republic of South Africa.”
The Ministry stated that through its diplomatic missions in South Africa, it has been engaging Malawian communities to assess the situation and provide assistance.
“Through the Malawian High Commission in Pretoria and Consulate General in Johannesburg, the Ministry has been in contact with leaders of Malawian diaspora groups in South Africa in order to assess the situation and provide the necessary support to those affected,” the statement said.
