Maryam Babajani, one of the individuals detained during the nationwide protests in January 2026 in Izeh, has been sentenced to 32 years, six months, and two days in prison by the First Branch of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court.
According to a report by HRANA, the media arm of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI), the Izeh resident was recently sentenced to 20 years and one day, and 12 years, six months, and one day in prison on two separate security charges.
According to the report, the ruling against Babajani cites the Law on Intensifying the Punishment of Espionage. An informed source close to her family said that, following the verdict, Babajani’s defense attorney, Hossein-Ali Hatami, filed an appeal.
Babajani was detained in late January 2026 in connection with the nationwide protests in Izeh. After a period in detention, she was temporarily released from prison after posting bail of 10 billion tomans.
