African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has cautioned against any move by the administration of President Bola Tinubu to formally empower Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho or other non-state actors to undertake security responsibilities, warning that such actions could undermine human rights protections and democratic standards.

Sowore made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja after joining thousands of protesters demonstrating against the growing insecurity in the country, including the abduction of schoolchildren, teachers, and a school principal in Oyo State and other parts of Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists, Sowore acknowledged that Igboho already commands a loyal security structure and network of supporters capable of carrying out operations independently.

“Yes. Sunday Igboho already had his own team. Even before he was attacked,” Sowore said.
