A small fire erupted in the blood bank of Government Multi Speciality Hospital (GMSH-16) in Chandigarh early on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) and was swiftly put out officials said. There were no injuries.The incident was first detected by the staff on duty, and the fire was put out by the security personnel after an alert."Senior hospital authorities, including the Director Health Services, Medical Superintendent, Deputy Medical Superintendent and the Incharge Blood Bank, reached the site promptly and reviewed the situation," an official statement said.Necessary safety measures were immediately put in place to safeguard the premises and ensure continuity of blood bank operations. A preliminary assessment indicated a short circuit in the air-conditioning unit behind the fire."No loss of life or injury has been reported.
