Five people have been transferred to Hagenow for treatment, while another patient was taken to the hospital in Schwerin with smoke inhalation. The two fatalities were both patients at the facility, authorities said, according to Germany's dpa news agency.‌Patients were this morning left sitting in front of the burning building in their hospital gowns while fire crews flooded the scene, local outlet Nordkurier reports.Others were reportedly wheeled out in their hospital beds before emergency personnel transported them to safe areas. The blaze was later brought under control, according to broadcaster NDR. Paramedics and hospital staff have continued providing care to the evacuated patients.‌Tobias Warnke, who led the response by fire crews, said: "All patients have been evacuated. There is no one left in that area."The ward is sealed off, and the fire can no longer spread to other areas. It is now truly confined to this one building, and that's all there is to it."We are now moving quickly into the final extinguishing operations. The evacuation of the individual areas went very well. A huge thank you again to the hospital staff."‌Warnke said approximately 120 helpers were on site, including 90 firefighters from Ludwigslust and the surrounding area, police, and teams from the German Red Cross. The LUP Clinic is the only hospital located within the northern German town of Ludwigslust. The 160-bed facility at Neustädter Straße 1 is an acute care hospital which provides basic and standard medical care in the region.Article continues belowThe cause of the fire is currently unknown.Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.‌Breaking NewsFire
