A prisoner died at an Iranian jail after being denied medical treatment despite having completed his sentence days earlier, a human rights organization reported.
Abdolhadi Sheykhepour, a father of two from Sardasht, died on Sunday at Mahabad prison in northwestern Iran, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
The group said he had been unable to move from his bed for at least two days before his death and received no medical attention during that period.
Prison authorities told Sheykhepour’s family that he died of cardiac arrest, Hengaw reported.
Sources cited by the organization said he was not transferred to the prison clinic despite his critical condition in the days preceding his death.
