It was previously reported in November 2025 that an anonymous developer was surveying around 5,000 acres of land near the same area. Twenty residents were offered deals to sell their land for significantly above market value.

This generated a great deal of opposition from local residents, who formed a public Facebook group called “We are Mason County, KY” that has around 4,300 members at time of writing. They have proposed that county officials impose a moratorium on data centers, and a petition against the proposed campus has gathered more than 1,200 signatures at time of writing.
