Anand Mohan, a 2018-batch IAS officer, assumed office as Collector of Tirunelveli district on Monday following the transfer of his predecessor R. Sukumar.Speaking to reporters after taking charge, Mr. Anand Mohan promised to accord the highest priority to education and employment, as the core areas were closely linked with peace and communal harmony prevailing in any district. As the schools were about to re-open on June 4, meeting with heads of all schools had been organised to ensure clean and safe environment on the school premises.New mechanisms such as school-level monitoring committees would be evolved to check dropouts and bring them back to the classrooms. Review meetings would be conducted in every school within a week of re-opening to identify dropouts, if any, to take appropriate steps to bring them back to the schools.The Collector said he would try to understand the start-up aspirants’ dreams and provide them with appropriate training modules and financial support to start their own ventures. Moreover, industry – institution tie-ups would be put in place so that industry-ready students emerging from their institutions would either start their business ventures or get employed.“Since law and order issue is directly connected to education and employment, we will concentrate on these areas with utmost care,” Mr. Anand Mohan said adding that healthcare, drinking water supply would also be given due importance.Terming the perennial Tamirabharani River, the backbone of drinking water supply in four southern districts, as a boon to Tirunelveli, Mr. Anand Mohan, who had served in TWAD Board, said the wholehearted efforts with the active participation of all government departments, local bodies and non-governmental organisations would be taken to keep the river clean and free from pollution.Since lack of underground drainage system was the prime reason behind the pollution of the Tamirabharani, due steps would be taken to get funds for executing projects wherever it was required to avert river pollution.The Collector, while assuring that he would visit all sensitive villages to have close interaction with the villagers, said the village vigilance committees would be strengthened to ensure social harmony.Mr. Anand Mohan is from Ernakulam in Kerala and holds a B.
