A group of passengers staged a protest at Mattuthavani here complaining that they did not have bus services to Chennai on Sunday morning.However, the police pacified them and TNSTC operated a special bus to Chennai by diverting a bus that was scheduled to go to Palani.A TNSTC official said that four buses were operated to Chennai between 8 p.m. and midnight on Saturday. Besides, 31 special buses were operated to Tiruvannamalai from MGR Bus Stand.“One woman passenger from Kanniyakumari district had wanted to travel to Chennai. However, after 9 p.m. there was no bus service to Chennai at Kanniyakumari and she was asked to go to Madurai for onward bus service. However, there was no scheduled bus service from Madurai after midnight,” the official said.The woman who had come to the MGR bus stand after midnight had learnt through SETC staff that no bus service was available in the night. After having waited throughout the night, the woman had complained about lack of bus service to Chennai. By then, a few other passengers had joined her.“The passengers had tried to block SETC buses that were terminating in Madurai,” the official said.Meanwhile, as the passengers protested, a bus was diverted and 27 of them boarded for Chennai at 6 a.m.On Sunday night, TNSTC had planned to operate 50 buses, including 20 buses, with reservation facility, to Chennai to clear extra rush of passengers returning home after summer vacation for school students.
