A majority of private buses remained off the road across Tiruchi on Saturday following a sudden strike by private bus operators protesting a series of attacks on drivers and conductors.The agitation was triggered after the conductor of a private city bus operating between Thuvakudi and Chathiram Bus Stand was allegedly assaulted by some youths when he insisted they buy tickets. According to sources, the youths refused to pay the fare and allegedly attacked the conductor when he persisted.In protest, private bus operators suspended services from Chathiram Bus Stand, disrupting public transport and leaving many passengers stranded.The strike was called off after police and transport officials held talks with the operators and assured stringent action against those responsible. Bus services resumed later in the day.The protest comes amid growing concern over attacks on private bus crew. A few days ago, a driver was allegedly assaulted following a collision with a car near the Central Bus Stand.
