Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) workers launched a 24-hour continuous protest outside the Madurai division transport corporation headquarters, pressing for a series of long-standing demands.Organised by the REWA-CITU, the protesters outlined major grievances, urging the Tamil Nadu government to take corrective action on many issues, including disbursement of nine months of outstanding wage settlement arrears and Dearness Allowance (DA) dues.Other key demanded included the budgetary allocations to bridge the financial gap between the revenue and expenditure of transport corporations; total abolition of the contract employment system and the immediate recruitment for 30,000 vacant posts across corporations; extension of pension and family pension benefits to employees who joined service after April 1, 2003.Additionally, they demanded the removal of the 5% cap on compassionate appointments to ensure jobs for all eligible registered heirs, immediate settlement of pending retirement benefits for former employees and direct operation of electric buses by state transport corporations rather than through private entities under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model.The demonstration was presided over by district president D. Mariappan and inaugurated by federation general secretary K. Arumuga Nainar.Union leaders emphasised that the continuous agitation aimed to draw immediate government attention to the financial and operational security of public transport workers across the State.
