The Tamil Nadu Rural Development Department Staffs’ Associations led a protest in Krishnagiri on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) demanding to fill up vacancies, reversal to the old pension scheme, among a host of other demands.The protesters put forth a 21 charter of demands which included filling up of 1,500 vacancies to the posts of Panchayat secretaries, office assistants, drivers, night watchmen, and registry writer.They also demanded linking of Panchayat secretaries to the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS), with a guaranteed pension of ₹3,400 and a net sum of ₹2 lakh. The association also demanded promotions to work supervisors to that of junior engineers upon completion of seven years. Similarly, they called for promoting assistant engineers to executive engineers who have been in the same position for over 15 years.The protesters also demanded creation of Block Level Officer akin to the BDO cadre for VB-G-RAM G scheme. The Association demanded a pay hike for computer operators, who have been in service for over 15 years. They also demanded bifurcation of panchayat unions that have more than 20 panchayats, in order to enable ease of developmental operations. Published - August 05, 2026 07:38 pm IST
