The National Freedom Party has confirmed Mbali Shinga’s expulsion after its Appeals Tribunal dismissed her appeal, saying disciplinary processes were fair and constitutionally sound, with no grounds to overturn findings.

KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC and National Freedom Party (NFP) provincial chairperson Mbali Shinga has had her appeal dismissed and her expulsion from the party confirmed, after the party’s Appeals Tribunal upheld earlier disciplinary findings against her.

Shinga faced disciplinary action after she allegedly defied a directive from the party’s national leadership instructing her to support an uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) motion of no confidence against KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli in December.

In April, an NFP disciplinary committee found Shinga, who also served as the party’s provincial chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal, guilty of gross insubordination and recommended that she be expelled from the organisation.

The NFP said it noted and welcomed the ruling, which upheld findings of guilt and confirmed the sanction imposed following internal disciplinary proceedings.
