MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Sunday said the possible subpoena against Nancy dela Rosa, wife of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, is unrelated to efforts to locate the senator.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag issued the statement after Sen. Panfilo Lacson urged the agency not to proceed with issuing the summons, calling it a form of harassment that “exposes their incompetence in intelligence work” and describing it as “unprofessional” and “trabahong-tamad” (lazy work).

According to Matibag, the NBI’s interest in the senator’s wife stems only from an alleged text message she sent to Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano when Dela Rosa left the Senate.
