Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga has encouraged women to use safety precautions when using e-hailing services, including sharing trip information and reporting suspicious behaviour to authorities or platforms.

Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga has urged young women and girls to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety when using e-hailing services amid growing concerns over commuter safety.

Chikunga said that while e-hailing services remain a convenient and accessible mode of transport, users should take precautionary measures to reduce potential risks.

“The safety of women and girls remains a priority. As we continue to advocate for safer communities, it is important that young women remain alert and take necessary precautions when using e-hailing services,” she said.

She advised commuters to verify key details before entering a vehicle, including the driver’s identity, vehicle registration number and trip information.
