More foreigners living in Korea are eligible to vote in local elections than ever.
Not everyone was aware of that, however, as polling stations were bustling on Friday for the two-day early voting period.
At an early voting station in Yongsan District, central Seoul, on Friday afternoon, an election staffer told the Korea JoongAng Daily that foreigners "can't vote" when asked if many had cast ballots at the venue so far, explaining that they "aren't eligible."
After considerable discussion and consultation with a senior staff member, the polling station workers corrected the mistake, explaining that a foreigner can vote if they have resident status.
