“We are ahead of the problem; we are monitoring the gasoline prices. We will act accordingly, depending on the nature of the issue and in relation to what lies ahead,” Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, said on Thursday in an interview with Skai TV, adding that within the targeted measures, the only horizontal measure that has been adopted concerns diesel.

According to the minister, this was implemented because diesel has an inflationary impact on the economy. He noted that inflation remains a challenge, and that Greece, in line with the European Commission’s policy direction, is adopting targeted measures, such as those for fertilizers and unleaded gasoline.

Regarding diesel, he added that it has been assessed that “we need a horizontal measure because it feeds through into inflation more quickly. It is embedded in supply chains and in businesses. Therefore, we started by implementing this and we are assessing it based on oil price developments. When I came here, it was at $95 per barrel.”
