The Greek government will extend a subsidy on diesel introduced in April to help consumers cope with rising energy prices linked to the conflict in Iran until the end of June, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday.

The diesel fuel subsidy of 15 cents/liter in retail will keep diesel fuel 30 cents cheaper compared to March levels, he told ministers at a cabinet meeting.

The measure was first introduced in April.

“We continue to support incomes in the face of crises and, of course, we are promoting major reforms that advance our country’s path of progress,” Mitsotakis added.

The government has already decided on a one-off family support payment of 150 euros per child, which will be disbursed at the end of June, without any application required and based on very broad income criteria covering more than 80% of households nationwide, he said.
