The police have identified 69 places in different parts of Coimbatore city as accident hotspots. The traffic police wing of the Coimbatore City Police identified these hotspots based on recurring instances of accidents getting reported.According to the police, a place is marked as an accident hotspot when three fatal accidents or seven non-fatal accidents are reported.The police had already marked 35 places in various parts of the city as accident hotspots. After analysing the patterns and statistics of accidents reported in the city, the police identified more hotspots, taking the number to 69. Avinashi Road alone has seven such spots.Officers said that the police have stepped up increased surveillance and road traffic management at these places to curtail accidents.
