The Salem City Police identified 20 accident hotspots under the city police limits and drew signs to warn the motorists and commuters.In 2025, a total of 250 people died in road accidents in Salem City police limits, including 101 two-wheeler riders who did not wear helmets and 24 individuals who travelled as pillion riders. To reduce accidents and create awareness among the public, the city police are taking various measures. As part of this initiative, the police identified 20 accident hotspots within the city limits and installed signs at locations where fatalities occurred to warn motorists and commuters.The identified accident hotspots includes the AVR roundabout in Salem-Sooramangalam Main Road, Kuranguchavadi Pirivu, Vennankudi Muniappan Kovil, Mamangam bus stop, Karuppur Government Engineering College, opposite to Sisu Hospital, Thirumagal Bypass Junction, Kondalampatti Butterfly Pirivu Road, Soolaimedu Pirivu Road, opposite to Uthamasolapuram Petrol Bunk, and opposite to 1,008 Sivan temple in Ariyanoor. The City Police have marked the accident hotspot signs in yellow paint to warn the public to drive cautiously. City Police officials said that City Police Commissioner K. Joshi Nirmal Kumar have instructed them to identify the accident hotspots to raise awareness among the public. Traffic police will give more importance to regulating vehicle movement at such hotspots.Commuters should pass the accident hotspots carefully and control their vehicular speed while crossing these hotspots. The public should obey the traffic rules, especially two-wheeler riders, and pillion riders should wear helmets to reduce accidental fatalities, officials added.
