Here’s what to do during the weekend of 29-31 May.
Back for its 29th edition, the international Balloon Fiesta is once again lifting spirits and filling the sky above Košice. Held at the campus of the Technical University of Košice, this beloved event brings together balloonists from Slovakia, Czechia, Hungary, Austria, USA and the United Kingdom for a breathtaking spectacle of colour and flight. This time you can also look forward to seeing three balloons with a unique shape. Morning and evening launches take place from 27 to 31 May, with the dazzling highlight — the night-time balloon inflation — scheduled for Friday evening. Find out more about the event here, admission is free.
Dubbed the “Slovak Sea”, the Zemplínska Šírava reservoir in eastern Slovakia was one of the country’s most popular summer holiday destinations during communism, when travel options were limited. At its peak in the 1970s, more than one million visitors flocked there each year. This year, the reservoir marks the 60th anniversary of its first season and invites visitors to relive the atmosphere once again — full of summer fun, music, and good vibes. The celebrations will take place this Saturday and Sunday and will feature concerts, activities, attractions, tasty food. Find out more here.
