Close to 400 police officers will be on duty during the Independence Day celebrations to ensure safety and security during the events.
Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga said 400 police officers will be deployed across all events, with the national fire and emergency service also on standby. He said the security threat level is low and there are no known risks to the program.
“We have enough officers on duty and emergency services ready in case of any incidents,” he said.
Samoa’s Independence executive committee provided details during a livestreamed briefing on the government’s official page with journalists on Wednesday, outlining the program for Independence Week events.
The briefing was led by representatives Agafili Tomaimanō Shem Leo, Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga, and Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority Commissioner Tanuvasa Petone Mauga.
