Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam staged a protest slamming the Union Government for the hike in fertilizer prices, in Krishnagiri on Tuesday (May 26, 2026).The protesters said that the BJP-led NDA government had promised a minimum support price for all agriculture produce on line with the M.S. Swaminathan Committee recommendations that called for production costs plus 50% to be given as support price, 12 years ago in the run up to its election. However, not a word has been said about the promise and farmers are left in the lurch without remunerative prices.According to the Left–affiliated farmers association, the price of chemical fertilizers had skyrocketed. Fertilizer prices across compounds have risen, hurting farmers. The association also called out the TVK-led State government and its Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. According to the farmers, while the TVK promised a complete write-off of farm loans secured by farmers through cooperative societies, the government’s announcement of partial waiver of up to ₹50,000 was condemned by the farmers.
