Urging the Union government to roll back the fertilizer price hike, members of the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Federation staged a demonstration in Salem on Tuesday (May 26, 2026).Farmers raised slogans condemning the increase in fertilizer prices and demanding immediate intervention by the Centre. The price of complex fertilizers had gone up from ₹1,975 to ₹2,150, while ammonium sulphate prices had risen from ₹2,200 to ₹2,450 a bag. The price of DAP had also been increased from ₹1,200 to ₹1,400, they said.Farmers’ associations said similar protests against the fertilizer price hike were being organised across the country and urged the Union government to immediately withdraw the revised prices in the interest of the farming community.
