A group of farmers picketed the Salem Collectorate on Monday (June 1), demanding a full loan waiver. Recently the government had announced waiver of crop loans up to ₹50,000 taken from cooperative banks. Over 200 farmers picketed the collectorate, demanding that the TVK-led government honour its election promise of fully waiving the crop loans of farmers with up to five acres of land. The police stopped them from entering the Collectorate and allowed five farmers to submit their petitions to the officials. Published - June 01, 2026 07:35 pm IST
