The Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Paadhukaapu Sangam staged a token hunger fast demanding a total farm loan waiver by the State government, here on Monday (June 22, 2026).The protesters, led by the association, gathered at Gurubarapalli and staged a protest against the recent announcements of farm loan waiver for cooperative loans at a cap of up to ₹75,000 and only for borrowings within 2025-26. According to the association, farmers were grappling with issues including farm credit and indebtedness owing to crop losses from climate change.The protesters alleged that the government had failed the farmers by not announcing a universal crop loan waiver. According to the association, farmers were seeking to draw the government’s attention for its failure to announce a full crop loan waiver as promised in its manifesto.
