NetBlocks announced that Iran’s internet blackout has entered its 87th consecutive day, while Iranian media outlets reported that a plan to restore international internet access to its pre-January status may soon be implemented.

NetBlocks wrote on its official account on the social media platform X: “Now marks the 87th consecutive day of the internet blackout in Iran; a restriction that has persisted for over 2,064 hours, eliminating any transparency regarding executions and worsening the inhumane conditions and daily uncertainty faced by prisoners, critics, dissidents, and tourists.”

ISNA, citing the Citna website and an informed source, reported that the Cyber Space Steering and Organizing Headquarters held a meeting this morning chaired by the First Vice President, during which the restoration of the internet to its pre-January 2026 status was approved.

According to the report, the resolution has been sent to the office of Masoud Pezeshkian for final approval. If endorsed by the president, it will then be handed over to the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology for implementation.

At the same time, Fars News Agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), also cited a source claiming that the restoration of international internet access was approved during the meeting with 9 votes in favor and 3 votes against. Fars added that more details “will be announced subsequently.”
